Diederik Storms was born in Den Haag and knew from a young age that his passion would be sculpting. He finished his study in 1997 at the artacademy in Enschede and took up residence in the Groningen border town of Bellingwolde in 2000. Diederik has been a supervisor at an art studio for people with intellectual disabilities besides his job as sculptor. Nature asks Diederik the question what is invisible behind all life. His sculptures often form fragments of old nature, such as tree trunk, petrified wood and old windblown trees. The hard material, the cold steel and the weathered wood, form contrasts to the light, clear Plexiglas. The clarity of the material is a literal glimpse into what could also be. The light plays an important role in this. The different light intensities in the Plexiglas always provide a different view of the image, they reveal something of the essential behind it, as it were.
