Marieke Peters

Marieke Peters graduated in 1999 from the Academy of Art and Design in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Her work is a combination of painting, photography and screen printing on linen, old wooden panels and ceramics. Mixing the different techniques gives her the opportunity to make full use of methods.

In her work she looks for a point of duality. A moment of chaos or a moment in complete silence in which a story can arise. An inexhaustible life energy combined with a destructive power. By using images from our collective memory, she places her work on the borderline of reality and illusion.

The way in which her work is created is very close to her way of looking and vision of the world. When she looks around, she mainly sees the fragility of existence. And also the enormous power that can arise from connection with nature. Marieke gives the performance a mystical charge by using methods such as omission, transparency and layering. The veiled rendering and small interventions in the image evoke a melancholic atmosphere.
